Previous minutes
The minutes were reviewed and accepted without modification.A number of topics were discussed arising from the previous minutes:
Communications
CB suggested that within a limited budget, leaflets may be more cost effective than business cards. He said we could get 5000 leaflets printed for about £100 but we'd have to manage the time-sensitive content well.Under attendance figures, we noted that the last field meeting at Minions was well-attended and splitting it into two parts works well. But it wouldn't be normally practical to advertise a specific second part with reliable starting place and time.
We won't be able to sustain having external speakers for the evening meetings unless we increase their attendance.
We plan to have a generic poster on a sandwich board outside the meeting rooms on the day of an evening meeting, with specific attachments for the current meeting. We can also put material on the internal notice boards free of charge because we book the room.
We should also continue to ensure that our evening meetings are documented at VISITLISKEARD.CO.UK, which has a comprehensive events page.
The article by AB in the Cornish Times of 2015-08-07 was a good example of how we can keep ourselves prominent in that channel.
We should try to give a more comprehensive description of the evening meetings so that new attendees can be confident of what to expect.
CB said that we could publish
CAGG@EMAIL.COM as a mail address for communication to
us.
It was agreed that we could spend up to £300 on permanent display materials and that we might invest £100 on a transmitted light microscope which could be used for demonstrations at events and for loaning to people. CB will report back on what a budget of £150 and £300 would buy for displays.
TH reported that We can have a Christmas Tree at the Methodist Hall in Liskeard for £15. Now we must prepare for how we will decorate it.
TH agreed to take measurements in the Long Room to help decide on a better projector screen.
Next year's programme
PF has arranged for Rick Stewart, "local mining historian" to give a talk for the January 2016 meeting. It will be about the relationship between geology and mining in the Cornubian ore field.PF has approached Jonathon King, an engineering geologist, who may be able to give us a bespoke tour of Churchtown Farm in Autumn 2016.
TH has spoken with Paul Day, local historian, about the powder mills. He says that a field trip to Herodsfoot would be better than a lecture. TH will try and arrange this for one of the dates in April 2016.
TH will contact John Manley to find out about his availability.
It was suggested that the meeting of 2016-06-17 could be a geological walk around Liskeard, meeting at the Long Room.
We'd like to do a rock identification meeting on a Friday evening with a display camera and an open afternoon at the museum on the following Saturday. We can use the museum without charge.

CB clarified the intent of the current constitution wording about professional geologist committee members. The intent is to try and avoid an unintentional long term erosion of the amateur nature of the organisation.Updates
