Minutes of a Caradon Amateur Geology Group committee meeting held on 2017-12-15, 19:30 - 21:32. Readership is CAGG members.

The Minutes of the meeting on 2017-02-24 were summarised and agreed as a true record.Financial status
PF described the state of our accounts:We had £1462.44 in the bank on 2017-11-28.
The income breaks down as
- £235 from talk attendance;
- £105 from field trip attendance and
- £400 in membership fees.
Our expenses have been
- £210 CB expenses;
- £6.14 stationery;
- £82.50 insurance;
- £94.50 meeting room;
- £40 ouside speakers.
From this we think we could comfortably budget about £300 for external speakers.
2018 programme
Suggestions for topics included:- Technologies of geophysical measurement (Synthetic Aperture Radar, Magnetic Variation, Trace Gasses, Seismic Methods, Satellite Data);
- Lightning talks;
- Local limestone;
- Visit the caves at Buckfastleigh - Pengelly cave trust centre, includes a museum by special arrangement;
- Building stone in Plymouth;
- Truro Cathedral stone (CB has samples) - can be a talk followed by field trip;
- Cot Valley and the beach at Cape Cornwall have points of interest connected with granite/country rock boundaries;
- Buildings at Redruth (possibly for 2019);
- Something dinosaur-related during the summer.
- Camborne School of Mines.
CB will be at Skye in April so we should plan for an external speaker on 2018-04-20.
Actions:
- TH to contact Dave Jean about visiting Buckfastleigh, aiming for July.
- BJ to contact Dave Williams of Lostwithiel about giving a talk on 2018-04-20.
- PF to contact the person at Redmore for a talk in May.
- PF to contact Rick Stewart about doing a talk in October (Mining historian, recent book is about the industrial archaeology of steam mining engines).
Immediate plans are:
- January 19/27
- "How to build a Cathedral"
- February 16/24
